Gift of Learning
While we aim to ensure every child reaches their full potential academically, they are also taught to understand how they learn best. Understanding their unique learning style and needs empowers them to be self-advocates.
Multi-sensory Reading Instruction
Kids learn in many different ways. Some do best with information they hear or see while others with tactile and kinesthetic input. Our programs incorporate all of these by using manipulatives to teach phonemic awareness, phonics, word analysis, spelling, fluency, comprehension and vocabulary
What is Dyslexia?
Dyslexia is a neurological condition caused by a different wiring of the brain. There is no cure for dyslexia and individuals with this condition must learn coping strategies. Research indicates that dyslexia has no relationship to intelligence. Individuals with dyslexia are neither more nor less intelligent than the general population. But some say the way individuals with dyslexia think can actually be an asset in achieving success.
Language based learning disabilities
15-20% of the population has a language-based learning disability. Of the students with specific learning disabilities receiving special education services, 70-80% have deficits in reading. Dyslexia is the most common cause of reading, writing and spelling difficulties. Dyslexia affects males and females nearly equally as well as, people from different ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds nearly equally.
A diagnostic reading assessment is used to measure students' skills in each of the five components of reading: vocabulary, phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency and comprehension.
